Cheshire

Open green spaces, sweeping viewpoints, vibrant towns and quaint villages make up the largely unspoilt county of Cheshire in the north-west of England. This glorious county sits on the Welsh borders between Lancashire and Staffordshire. Cheshire’s 100 square miles of inspiring and scenic Peak District lying to the east. On the edge of the world renowned Peak District National Park.

Famous for its many white plaster and black timber-frame houses Cheshire is also home to some of Britain’s grandest houses. Arley Hall, Dunham Massey Hall, Tatton Park, Capesthorne Hall and Lyme Park, the latter is best known for its role as Pemberley in the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The magnificent cathedral city of Chester is also notable for its 550 listed buildings. Spanning from the medieval to the Victorian periods, and it is still encircled by an impressive sandstone wall that covers a two-mile circuit around the town.

Where to live

Cheshire is a truly beautiful county. With cities such as Manchester and Liverpool in close proximity it’s an area where housing has always been in high demand.

Cheshire’s ‘golden triangle’ that includes Wilmslow, Knutsford, Alderley Edge and Prestbury, is home to footballers, celebrities and captains of industry. It is a very desirable location full of high-end designer stores and top-class bars and restaurants.

The villages surrounding these popular towns are plentiful and each one as pretty and peaceful as the next. A full range of amenities is available within a few miles of most semi-rural and rural locations. And the excellent transport links throughout the county make finding that all-important work-life balance easy.

Things to see and do

Dotted throughout the county are great houses and glorious gardens. As well as moorland landscapes, medieval deer parks, and a number of fabulous National Trust properties. There are hundreds of miles of countryside walks across the region. More than enough to satisfy history, nature and hiking enthusiasts alike.

Cheshire is brimming with delightful pubs and inns where a hearty meal is the order of the day. There are plenty of family-friendly restaurants and cafes, a good mix of high-street and independent eateries, and a handful of truly special Michelin starred restaurants. Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor, Sticky Walnut and the Chef’s Table are just three of the many outstanding restaurants in the area.

First-class shopping, entertainment and events are a plenty throughout the county. Alton Towers is just across the border in Staffordshire. It’s a perfect day out for those adventurous enough to take in the thrills and spills of the famous theme park. The world-renowned Chester Zoo is also a huge draw for locals and visitors. A Knowsley Safari Park is within easy reach too.
